SUBANG JAYA: Students from Taylor’s University School of Architecture find that art and cultural events outside of the classroom help to inspire their work.
“Architecture is not just about designing concrete buildings, it’s more in-depth,” Architecture student Fazlin Zulkifli, 22, said.
Architecture students adhere the idea of participating in more art and cultural events to be more involved outside of the classroom, as most of the time they are so caught up with inside classroom activities they stay on campus till late at night.
“Sometimes we tend to get lost when it comes to pitching ideas for our projects simply because we don’t go out and see what’s new out there,” Fazlin said.
In fact, students learn more than just art and culture in these events, they also learn various soft skills from art exhibitions which are not taught in the classroom.
Fazlin said that one of the events organized by TU called ‘Tiang Seri’ was a lot of fun and indeed educational.
However, the university offers limited exposure on such events, and students have to make time and effort to join exhibitions outside of campus.
Nevertheless, Architecture student Munirah Zazarin, 22, said that fingers must not be pointed only to the university, but also to students who should be taking initiatives to look for inspiration.
“There are many places showcasing artwork and cultural exhibits, all we have to do is a little research and have determination in finding ideas,” Munirah said.
