SUBANG JAYA: Taylor's University Foundation in Natural and Built Environments students managed to raise more than RM 2,000 in a span of three days, as part of their Introduction to Business assignment.
A total of 16 groups from the course subject were required to conduct sales in order to raise RM 2,500 each, from a time frame of 8 to 12 June.
The funds collected from their sales would go to a particular charity organisation, which was pre-selected by each group.
One of the group leaders Lin Zi Shan, 19, said, “We finished selling all items for each day and in the first three days, we raised RM3,000.”
Her group which was responsible for raising funds for the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia, held a booth at the Student Life Centre foyer, which sold popiah basah and soy milk.
Lin expressed that the challenge they faced was selling the same items every day to the crowd.
Thus, she said they had to control the quantity of items sold, in order to avoid losses.
Lam Wee Wee, 19, whose group was helping the Paws Animal Welfare Society, said, “We already collected around RM2,100 in the first three days of sale.”
The group had opted to sell Softsrve ice-cream with toppings as their strategy to raise funds.
According to him, his team however did not have to bear the cost of the ice-creams sold, as they had secured sponsorship from Softsrve Ice-Cream Parlour.
Lam conveyed that getting sponsorship was the biggest challenge for the team.
However, he said the team's effort had paid off because his team was the only team out of the 16 that managed to secure sponsorship to raise funds.
Based on the ink Slingers' observation, most of the groups had opted to sell food items.
However, there were also groups that sold T-shirts, accessories and provided henna services.
