As we get older, we tend to reminisce about our younger days as we try to recall the fond memories that we had as a kid. However, we find it difficult at times to remember some of these things because we may have had too many things that have occurred while we were growing up. Back in the 90s when many of us were in primary or secondary schools, we were engaged in socializing activities and at times, we used toys as a stepping stone to make many nice memories and pass the time with, before the age of smartphones. With this in mind, here are five toy trends from the 90s which would bring back the childhood flashbacks.
1. Furby
An iconic toy known for its talking features, blinking eyes, being furry but heavy enough for a kid to carry it up as well as having moving ears, Furbies which made its way to our hearts back in the 90s gave us a sense of how it feels like to take care of a pet, with no consequences. Furbies got so famous they were everywhere and began competing with the likes of Hello Kitty, Barbie Dolls and Gundams. They did well due to it being a unisex toy and if you did not have one as a kid, you would envy those who would have had.
2. Power Rangers & Ultraman action figures
Mention either of the names in nearly all around the globe and people would instantly recall the memories of being a kid or having one. The originals of each were very well received across the globe which ultimately led to many other merchandises but the best hit were action figures. Back then, each boy would have wanted a figure and whenever they would meet up with others, they would battle it out and make fantasy battle armies from the collection of toys they had and the memories made then were just amazing. Although mostly popular with boys, girls would sometimes join in on the fun too.
3. Tamagochi
The first digital pet that most kids back in the 90s would have, Tamagochis were a big hit and it was mostly an experience and training for kids to see if they were fit enough to take care of a pet with minimum consequences. Back then, most of us would have spent much of our time taking care of our pets by feeding them, playing with them and cleaning their poos. It became the benchmark of digital pets and was an inspiration to future digital pet devices such as Digimon digivices.
4. Erasers
Well technically not a toy. Most of us had our share of fun memories of eraser battles with our classmates. Despite being one of the cheapest form toy trend, erasers were certainly one of the most effective ones that we can have fun with no worries of them getting confiscated. Just thinking of it brings back memories, including a period in our lives where they would be collectibles due to the different images printed on them as well as different shapes that some of us would exploit during eraser battles.
5. Colourful Pick-up Sticks
As a kid, this would be a pretty challenging game to play. With the many sticks spread out and using only the same colour stick to pick up another same coloured one, without touching the others proved to be a game that trains balance and patience at a young age. It was hard to start off with but for some, they would observe how others would play and learn from them to get better. Playing this with a group of friends at times may be stressful as they would make a lot of noise to throw your concentration off. Nevertheless, this timeless game is one that you should definitely take up once more to relive those fun memories again.
