SUBANG JAYA: Taylor’s University and PhD Malaysia recently signed a memorandum of agreement to launch The Game Change Academy.
It was the first in-market collaboration between an institution of higher education and a global media network, which also included a student-managed agency within Taylor’s University called proPassion Communications.
The collaboration aimed to prepare Taylor’s University School of Communication students for career choices in the media industry, by providing practical industry training.
General Manager of PhD Malaysia, Jimmy Lim said, “Our industry is facing a severe talent crunch and we cannot continue to do the same things over and over again.”
“The talent supply is finite and the industry at large is not doing itself any favour with archaic talent development programmes,” he said.
School of Communication Dean Josephine Tan said, “Like how professional football clubs have youth academies to develop future talents, The Game Change Academy will provide industry linkages to students of Taylor’s Bachelor of Mass Communication.”
Students would be provided with access to PhD’s proprietary planning tools and have the opportunity to understudy PhD’s senior professionals, allowing them to experience real industry simulations.
“Our industry will have a pool of talent who will be able to immediately start practicing in the industry,” Tan said.
