SUBANG JAYA: Taylor’s University (TU) supporters were cheering and elated when TU won the Taylor’s Table Tennis Open 2015 held at The Grand Hall on the 6 and 7 June.
TU’s winning team, Taylor’s Sigma, defeated Utar Perak from University Tunku Abdul Rahman in the finals, leaving them as the first runner up.
There were four to six members in each team for the tournament, two for singles and two in doubles.
Business Administration major Aaron Chua Jing Heng, 23, was crowned the best male player during the tournament.
“Honestly, I didn’t think that I’ll win,” Chua said.
Chua added that Utar Perak was the hardest opponent for him to defeat during the final game.
He, who is currently in his first semester at TU said, he had stopped playing table tennis since lower secondary school and resume to play it again at the university.
His team, Taylor’s Sigma, went to the finals after they defeated Catholic High School in the semifinals, while Utar Perak defeated Help University in their semifinals game.
Taylor’s Sigma consists of Chua himself as the single player, including Ernes Chee Kien Ee, Tong Yie Kang and Francis Chua who played in the doubles.
They brought home RM2000 while Utar Perak, RM1000.
Both Catholic High School and Help University as the second runner up brought home RM500 for each team respectively.
Organising committee Ernes Chee Kien Ee, 21, said, “The tournament was a project by TU’s Table Tennis Club, planned since October 2014.”
Chee, who is a Marketing major said, “The tournament is to promote table tennis and promoting unity and community among adversaries.”
Sunway University, Kolej Universiti Islam Selangor, SEGi University and INTI College Subang also joined the tournament.
